MDAC is currently looking for an unpaid intern for a period of four to six weeks (depending on the level of experience and availability). In addition to the general internship criteria, the candidate should be fluent in both Romanian and English and have good analytical skills to conduct desk research related to MDAC’s six human rights goals. The internship would ideally take place from mid October to end of November 2011.

Moscow (Russia) and Budapest (Hungary), 22 April 2011. Five years and five months after MDAC filed a case to test the Russian Federation’s guardianship system, the Russian government has plugged the gaps revealed by strategic litigation. The recent law reform provides procedural safeguards to people with disabilities who find themselves trapped in Russia’s still-archaic guardianship system. The Mental Disability Advocacy Center extends its congratulations to Russian policy-makers and civil society, and encourages further action.

20 April 2011, Budapest (Hungary). At a “constructive dialogue” event held at lunchtime today in Budapest, civil society organisations laid out key concerns about human rights of people with disabilities. The event was held during a conference on the European Disability Strategy 2010-2020 hosted by the Hungarian government, which currently holds the rotating EU Presidency.

20 April 2011, Budapest (Hungary). On Monday the Hungarian parliament voted into law a new Constitution. A total of 262 members of parliament voted in favour, 44 against and one abstained. Only members of the ruling Fidesz party voted in favour, utilising its two thirds super-majority to drive through the new law.
