My six-week strategic litigation internship at MDAC has truly flown by, and it’s been a rewarding and eye-opening experience.  I arrived with little background in either mental disability law or European human rights instruments, and I’m leaving with a solid grounding in both. MDAC provided me with opportunities to visit a local social care institution, conduct substantive research on treaty body jurisprudence, assist with the preparation of cases, and explore new ways to engage existing international human rights mechanisms.

My supervisor provided me with support and direction while also giving me room to take my own initiative, which allowed me to learn something about the creativity involved in human rights work.

I really appreciated the warmth of the MDAC staff, who invited me to participate in everything from brainstorming meetings to training sessions. I was made to feel truly welcome in my short time here, and as a result I not only learned an immeasurable amount but felt I was able to contribute something useful, too.

My internship here has certainly equipped me to move forward with my work in the field of international human rights, and I’m grateful to have spent these past weeks at such a wonderful organisation.
