The purpose of this section of the training materials is to provide an introduction to a range of concepts that are relevant to a human rights based approach to access to justice for children with mental disabilities. Each section begins with a non-legalistic explanation of the particular concept. This is followed by a brief explanation of its human rights underpinnings. The specific implications for children with mental disabilities in judicial proceedings are then examined.
